My new “other” blog, Earthshattering Soul Gurgles.
This is my “other” blog. I currently blog at www.citizenwausau.com/grinningsoul(which happens to be powered by wordpress) but it is a community based blog site where I try to be civilized and professional. Before that I was blogging on the ever increasing clunky myspace until it became a simple an annoyance. I have not been doing any of my earthshattering soul gurgles for months now and now I find that it is time.
I am not going to play to some pretend audience on my very first post. I am not going to give a rundown about what someone might find here. I really am not quite sure myself.
So, I was pulling apart a chicken breast to add barbeque sauce to which makes for some tasty sandwiches and I was remembering that I was never a big fan of bbq sauce. I got some for free from a vendor at work and it is actually quite good. (http://www.maddjoesbbq.com/) I was trying to think about my intial blog and all of it’s bloggy goodness. I had a couple glasses of wine, then I was out of wine so I switched to the only other bottle left in the joint and that was some blue UV vodka. This is where I find my inspiration.
Some friends harp on me for some of my more “un-refined” tastes. I was never a big beer drinker. I went through a beer drinking phase that mainly consisted of Killians Red because it was on tap at my favorite gutterpunk dive and it wasn’t Bud Light and it wasn’t a stout. If I drink beer now it would be http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers.cfm?BeerID=7 New Glarus Spotted Cow (linked for any potential readers not familiar), Leinenkugels Berryweiss because it is fruity and girly, and then when it boils down to the nitty gritty, PBR and Miller Lite. I must take note that all of my beer choices have originated in the fine state of Wisconsin. I didn’t realize that at all. I stopped consuming Coors Light for political reasons. My friend shared with me some beer he brought over on Thanksgiving. It was quite delicious but I don’t remember what it was. Oh well.
So yeah, in regards to my unrefined beer taste, I let it roll off my back. The way I see it, between all of my closest friends and I, we are all NERDS in some respect, in some facet of our modern day culture and just when you think you are a nerd about something, you encounter someone who is twice the nerd you are in some particular subject. All of my closest friends are nerds when it comes to something, some topic that they know absolutely too much about, however it is a relative thing. I used to consider myself a music nerd. Among certain company I know too much about popular (and actually not so popular) music, however I have been “out-nerded” and I love it. I don’t like being just simply nerded upon though when it is obvious I am not the slightest bit nerdy on a subject.
I guess that is the difference with nerds as opposed to every other sub-societal group, when normally we feel trumped by others sucess over ourselves, in nerdville with whatever ones nerdy interest is, it is okay and almost celebrated to be out nerded with the most going down is a nerdalicious argument going down over cultural relevance Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, or The Clash. Is there an underlying shame that accompanies nerd boy or nerd girl tendencies?
Maybe it is a deeply rooted shame in knowing that we are smarter and more enlightened than everyone else. Ha!
